Description

from the mid 1300s
My character, a Bubonic plague doctor, infected?! I figure, since there were so many killed and sick that wouldn't it make sense if one of the doctor's was bound to get sick at one point. Anyway, learned a lot about this while drawing.
history lesson:
They believed that covering themselves head to toe would stop infection. The beak of the bird-like mask was to filter out the air and cover up the stink of dead bodies. Oh and if you didn't know, that nursery ryhme we sang as kids..."Ring around the Rosey" is referrring completely to the Black plague. The rod/stick was to look at the patient without any actualy physical contact. The masks are supposed to be creepy to scare off spirits. There were a lot of theories for the cause. Jogees if you read all that...L~
I don't want to say it was fun because it was such a dark time in humanity considering they probably thought it was an apocalypse. But I admit. This was fun =v=

awesome concept and a sweet little history lesson in the description. Food for thought about the nursery rhymes, another rhyme similar to this that had a darker historical meaning was London Bridge, based upon entombing children inside the structure of a bridge to either starve or die of asphyxiation. Happy learning and great design!
